Till Death do us Part

Till Death do us Part Value Project

The concept of this idea is the main part in a wedding ceremony where the priest makes the two lovers into a married couple with the famous quote "Till Death do us Part". I took that and interpreted it into a picture of what that may look like by drawing a skull with a heart within its mouth and the two wedding rings on its lower jaw. I also incorporated what may be seen at a wedding such as flowers and doves, but in this case i used dove feathers falling. I feel as if its a meaningful promise to that special person in your life that when you decide to marry them you are basically promising you will love them until the end.

I used pencils for this project and different forms of texture along with it. I used a smoother style of shadowing for the skull on its sides and within the eye sockets, mouth, teeth, and the intentions within the skull. For the blood like substance oozing out the mouth i tried to give it a liquid like look since blood doesn't come in smooth chunks. The flowers i gave them a more of a lined shading because i wanted to incorporated the petal like look along with shadowing it. The feathers had a similar style of shading as hair starting with light strokes and mixing dark strokes with light strokes. The heart within its mouth was given a shined smooth look to it and tried to incorporate a shadowed look since its sitting within a skull.

I like the design of the human skull in general, its such an interesting look when compared to a normal human face. Since this is usually related to death when someone sees a skull by thinking of someone deceased or the grim reaper i decide to incorporate that into a nicer meaning. I began to think of multiple scenarios where people would be okay with saying "until I die". Marriage was one of the first ideas, and I liked the concept of someone promising to their lover that they would love them forever until they died. So I added multiple things you would see at a wedding to imply that when you look at it you could see it means a wedding without having to read the words.

If I could change anything I would probably add other effects to the skull such as cracks or chips to show it would display that the skull has been worn down over the years. I would probably add some more texture to the flowers as well. The liquid shading I'm proud of but i feel i could do better next time. The heart probably could have been more defined to appear as a heart since people wouldn't know what it was.

Chinese Dragon Project

Chinese Dragon SRQ Project

I wanted to create a project for the airport contest and i couldn't think of any Ideas for it so I went with something I'm comfortable with, Dragons. Although with this one i wanted it to be a Chinese dragon so that when I'm creating it I can work on my body movements while still making one of my favorite animals. This was also a way for me to work on details on it such as scales and hair movement. I was inspired by multiple sources for the design style of the dragon as well varying from Dragon Ball Z to Chinese Legends of ancient God like dragons who would bring wealth and joy to people. However I didn't want to incorporate the common belief that dragons are monsters from hell that must be slain, but as a being of mystery and fantasy.

I believe movement was a big factor in this project. I wanted to make the dragon seem as if he was looking down at someone and was displaying his majesty so I made him look as regal as he could by adding the body movement of a snake. Another factor with helping the movement appear visible is the scales, they appear as little arrows almost pointing the way of how his body is moving. The hair and mane also helped by giving him the look as if he is floating and has been moving around so his hair is moving with momentum on how he slithers around the air. I also incorporated Color into this with a bit of contrast in his antlers similar to how a deer's antlers are darker at the bottom since they aren't sun bleached yet.

I wanted to bring out a side of dragons that most people seem to ignore. In Legends from around the world, Dragons are seen as many things. They're vicious monsters who raid and burn down villages and castles for gold and to capture princesses, Or they're seen as Deities, gods from another world that bring fortune to those lucky enough to find one or obtain their trust. I wanted to give dragons a new image as a serene being with an intimidating stature thats looks as if it has the power to shatter the earth itself or throw all of harmony into discord. I also like to incorporate the factor that since dragons have been recorded in legends as timeless beings I wanted to give this one a look as if it was a little bit aged.

If I could fix anything, i would probably add a colorful back ground that would make the dragon appear as if its standing out in the night below the stars. I Probably would have fixed the eyebrows a little and the tufts of fur on the sides of his face.
